The 2200 square foot strawbale residence sits on a dramatic site at the edge of a steep cliff. The basic form is defined by the existing rocks from an ancient lava flow and an adjoining seasonal creek. Every room has a view towards the valley extending to the southeast, and large windows maximize passive solar heating. The ground floor has two foci; the view and rock garden to the south, and a music performance stage. A small loft on the second floor provides panoramic views and privacy for meditation. The interiors are open and brightly lit, with softer strawbale walls contrasting with sharp, linear design elements. |
